Getting Qualified Passwords for BDO

Password requirements of the website(BDO)

  • Please nominate a password that contains UPPERCASE, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.

  • The password should not be the same as the user ID.

  • Avoid using consecutive characters such (ex. abc, DEF, 678)

  • Avoid invalid characters such as [!#$%^&’;”].

Each password manager gets ten stars at the beginning and has ten times to generate suitable passwords. They will lose one star for one unqualified password, two stars for two unqualified passwords, and so on. They might also lose extra stars due to its inconvenient setting.

Setting process of each password managers

Bitwarden: 0 star

It lost 11 stars (9 stars for 9 failures and 2 stars for its unfriendly setting).

  • Annoying to drag the thumb of the seekbar (lost 1 star here)

It was annoying to drag the thumb of the seekbar to 12 exactly.

  • Need to check passwords carefully (lost 1 star here)

Users couldn’t forbid using the specific character(%), resulting in three failures in generating suitable passwords. And thus, it was necessary to check the passwords carefully to know whether they suit the website.

Unfortunately, most special characters in Bitwarden were considered invalid for BDO. As a result, there was only one qualified password.

Enpass: 7 stars

We excluded the invalid characters listed by the website by typing ourselve, which was very time-consuming.

  • Too many steps to generate suitable passwords (lost 1 star here)

Tap ”+” and “passwords”, then enter the login name, choose the field type and enter the URL. Next, go back to the adding page, begin to generate a password, and choose a suitable password. Finally, save the passwords.

LastPass: 0 star

Because we can only see three special characters on the password generator page, we needed to check the special characters in passwords carefully to know whether they were suitable for the website. Meanwhile, it caused 7 unqualified passwords since users were not allowed to exclude or include some special characters.

  • Inconvenient to save an account quickly for ten steps (lose 1 star here).

It needs ten steps to save an account. First tap ”add”, “passwords”, “add new passwords”, “name “, then click passwords and open the generating password page, next generate passwords, next tap “done” , “use this password”, and finally, “save” it.

KeePassium allowed users to exclude specific characters by entering the characters. It took more time to type the particular characters.

We first chose the choice of special characters, then clicked the box “exclude” and then typed the invalid special characters listed by the website (like @, #) (see picture). Therefore it lost 1 star for these unfriendly settings.
